Peter Healy
'Migration: In Flux Pandemic Collection, ' by Peter Healy, Painting, 2020

2020

About the Item

This framed 27" x 37" watercolor painting by Irish artist, Peter Healy is from the 'In Flux' Pandemic Collection. The painting comes vibrantly alive as the small painted shapes and forms almost vibrate with the desire to dance on the white paper. No two images are alike and all are painted with different colors. The forms also seem to take on a hieroglyphic language as the viewer tries to decipher the meaning of each. The painting is framed with a contemporary light birch wood frame. 'In Flux' is a reflection on, and a reaction to, life and art during the pandemic. The works explore form, color and symbols and their relationships to one another. Artist Peter Healy's works represent the evolution in the way we relate to one another in an environment where we are cut off from one another, and they seek to provide a respite from a moment in time that has been a collective challenge the world over. Healy sought to create pieces that offer joy, whimsy, and solace in a uniquely surreal moment in our global history. Healy is a Northern Irish artist with a background in illustration. These days he works in series and also individual paintings, drawings, and assemblage. His mediums are oil paint, acrylic, ink, pencil, collaged fabric, assembled wood/ various 3d objects and paper. He tries to let ideas come to him and sometimes let the pieces speak to him through their creation using editing as part of the process. They are usually colorful and often try to illustrate the contrast of living in the sparsely populated Fermanagh countryside of his youth and living in the city with a diverse population. He has lived in Ireland, England, Amsterdam, and Los Angeles. He now calls Houston, Texas home where he lives with his wife and two daughters. These experiences and diverse populations have influenced his work. There are so many ways to represent population architecture and nature, that he is constantly going between mediums to describe these relationships.
