About the Item
Shanthi Chandrasekar has been drawing and painting since early childhood, and has been trained in the traditional art forms of Kolam and Tanjore-style painting. While many of her works are influenced by her Indian heritage, her true inspiration comes from the mystery and majesty of the world around her; her muse lives where the scientific overlaps with the spiritual. Her artistic practice combines scientific and philosophical enquiry—facts and theories—with a wild imagination and constant exploration. She is fascinated by cosmology, the study of the origin, evolution and the ultimate fate of the entire Universe, and has pursued it through art. Her striking, beautiful, and complex drawings question our known reality and seek to learn more about the unknown.
The artist says about this work:
"One of my favorite pastimes is to visualize myself at extreme scales of the universe. I would imagine myself as a tiny subatomic particle zooming through space and time, sometimes interacting with other particles or just ignoring their effects. This drawing is a result of one of those fantastical journeys in mind, where the fields of individual particles all overlap to create a complex moiré like pattern."
