A Shakespearean scene featuring Sir John Falstaff and Bardolph being punished in the stocks. The characters feature together in 'Henry IV Part I', 'Henry IV Part II', and 'The Merry Wives of Windsor'. This scene appears to be imagined by the artist and serves as a commentary on the fall of both characters from the favour of Prince Hal upon his ascension to the throne. Presented glazed in a white wash line mount and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Signed and dated to the lower-left edge. On wove.
