Old Testament Scene with Angel 1813 Large Grisaille Drawing on Paper Signed

About the Item

One of the characters in this scene is a mature man, kneeling with his head bowed and hands clasped near his chest in a gesture of supplication. His posture conveys a sense of humility and contrition, suggesting that he is seeking forgiveness for some past transgression. Standing beside him is a young man with a clear and kind face, who is shown bending one knee as he consoles and wipes away the tears of the pleading man. The presence of the angel, with his eyes raised to heaven and hand placed on the young man's forehead, adds a spiritual and emotional dimension to the scene. It's symbolizes divine intervention and blessing, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of forgiveness and compassion. Further enhancing the narrative of the drawing is the figure of a woman, most likely the young man's mother, who is depicted sitting on a chair. Her hands are depicted in an emotional outburst, squeezing her leg and the edge of her cape. The expression on her face reflects the complex mix of feelings stirred up by the scene before her, indicating that she is deeply moved by the events unfolding. Perhaps some Old Testament plot is depicted here, a scene of consolation or forgiveness... Drawing on paper, dated and signed lower right, framed.
