Signed lower left, 'A. Vincent' for Andrew McDuffie Vincent (American, 1898-1993); inscribed verso with title, 'Oregon Coast' and dated 1945. A vibrant watercolor landscape by this American Modernist who first studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was commissioned to paint murals by the Works Project Association (WPA) in the 1930's. Over the course of a long career, McDuffie exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes and juried awards. In addition to his work as a fine artist, he maintained an academic career and served as Chairman of the art department of the University of Oregon. Andrew McDuffie was a member of the Portland Art Association and is listed in all relevant art-reference works, including 'Who Was Who in American Art' and 'Artists of the American West'.
