As a studio artist I prefer painting realistically with pastel/oil, exploring the complexities of water and the ocean in maritime scenery. “En plein air”, I prefer painting “looser” with oil, focusing on shape, light and mood to capture a scene that reflects my inner experience. I find it necessary to balance the contrast of pastel/oil with studio/outdoor painting to maintain freshness and prevent limitation while in the creative experience.
