  • Laiguelia - Coastal Beach Village on Italian Riviera Large Watercolor Painting
    Located in Sevenoaks, GB
A quite wonderful signed and dated 1959 large scale watercolour depicting the Riviera town of Laigueglia in Northern Italy. This is a lively scene with sailor in a striped t-shirt bringing in his ropes, as a sun bather in swimming trunks chats with a figure holding a large pole, possibly a sand spike or fishing rod. Locals go about their business in the background and mamas hang their washing from balconies to dry. The quality of this modernist work is superb throughout with fine detail and excellent rendering of the numerous figures and boats. Inscribed, signed and dated lower left. Artist: R. T. Horley (British, 20th century) Title: Laigueglia Medium: Watercolour & wash over pencil Size: 15.5 x 22.5 inches (39 x 57 cm) unframed We can arrange framing to your specification if required Laigueglia is a small coastal town situated along the Riviera di Ponente in the northern Italian coastal region of Liguria Laigueglia is a town that has maintained a more peaceful aspect and atmosphere, typical of a classic Ligurian seaside village. • The Medway, Rochester - Large Modern British Kent Landscape Watercolor Painting
    Located in Sevenoaks, GB
A beautiful large signed and dated 1937 watercolour by Roland Vivian Pitchforth RA depicting the River Medway at Rochester in Kent. Fine quality and important pre-war view of Rochester by this important Modern British painter. A leading example the artists output. The work comes with impeccable provenance - it was previously sold through the prestigious dealership Wildenstein & Co. Limited of New Bond Street, London and owned by F.M.S. Winand, who was a very important collector of Modern British art. There are also several loan exhibition labels. F.M.S. Winand owned works by the most important British artists of the early to mid 20th century, including Augustus John, Christopher Wood and Sir William Nicholson. An exhibition of Winand's Collection was held at the Kensington Art Gallery in 1949 - it is quite possible that this painting was exhibited at that time. Signed and dated lower right and presented in a beautiful painted wood frame which has been finished with ultra clear UV resistant glass. • Claude Muncaster Landscape Near Shrewsbury watercolour English countryside
    By Claude Muncaster

Claude Muncaster (1903-1974) Landscape Near Shrewsbury Watercolour 26x36cm Signed lower left Claude Grahame Muncaster, RWS, ROI, RBA, SMA was the son of Oliver Hall RA. At the age of fifteen his career as a landscape painter began, and he soon took to the seas, spending the 1920s and 30s travelling the world with his sketchbook in a series of vessels. With the outbreak of war and he joined the RNVR training as a navigator. Having left school at fifteen his mathematics was very weak and it was a relief for all when his artistic talents meant he was recruited as a camofleur. A master of capturing seascapes he was therefore able to hide huge ships ‘in plain sight’ with clever disguises. After the war he painted for the Royal Family and was a frequent guest at Sandringham. Claude Muncaster was a watercolourist known for his landscapes and maritime scenes. He was born Grahame Hall, the son of the Royal Academician Oliver Hall who taught his son to paint from an early age; Grahame first exhibited his work aged 15 and a few years later was showing at the RA. However, he adopted the name Claude Muncaster in 1922 to dissociate his career from that of his father. Muncaster’s primary choice of subject matter came from a genuine love of the sea. He made several long-distance sea voyages, including one around the Horn...
