Pelargonium #4, Floral, Richard de Bas paper, realism, botanical

2017

About the Item

Watercolor on handmade Richard de Bas "fleurs" paper Agnes Murray has an extensive exhibition history and she is represented in both private and public collections. Ms. Murray is a painter in watercolors and oils, and master printmaker working in lithography, intaglio, and more recently, monotypes. Her subjects include realist still life, portraits, and urban and vernacular architecture that explore the interconnectedness of public spaces and the borderline between public and private. “Two-dimensional representational imagery in my work explores the interplay between surface and illusion of space,” she says. Having begun her career with a series of autobiographical works derived from family snapshots, Murray takes many of her subjects from photographs of places to which she has an emotional attachment. Also interested in the nature of the creative process, she has produced a fine art book in a series published by Vincent FitzGerald, pairing visual artists with translated works by the Sufi poet Rumi.
