About the Item
Ali Eckert grew up within two cultures and has been strongly influenced by American imagery and pop cultural elements. His art explores various iconography to reflect its ongoing cultural transition. Eckert’s unique analog process marries photography with painting. With his background as a photographer, the artist has been experimenting for years the manual transfer of pigments to achieve a handmade painting. He skins the pigmented layer off and onto his canvas, aluminum or wood. The wet pigments are squeezed, wiped or reshaped while adding acrylic paint.
Eckert photographs all objects, sceneries – every little piece of the final image. Whether a crushed Brillo box, a worn-out gas pump or a broken neon sign in the desert, they all struggle to hang on while simultaneously starting to fade into oblivion.
The relation of the obvious and the hidden as well as the contradiction of aesthetic and decay are of high interest in Eckert’s art. Underneath the seductive surface, he layers ephemeral, vulnerable and dramatic content. The resulting images draw you in. His work refers to certain nuances that challenge the viewer to explore more.
Ali Eckert works with mixed media, film and photography in his studios in Berlin and Wisconsin.

- Untitled (de Kooning)By Richard PrinceLocated in New York, NYRichard Prince Untitled (de Kooning), 2008 Collage with color offset lithograph, hand-cutting, hand-painting and assemblage with extensive additions in graphite mounted on on inset board. Hand signed and numbered with the letter L (from A-Z) by artist on the front Frame Included Richard Prince’s “de Kooning” series is a process of interaction and appropriation with the works of ground-breaking imagery of the Abstract Expressionist master, Willem de Kooning. The idea for these edgy, Oedipal works came to him when he was leafing through a catalogue of de Kooning’s "Women" series. Prince started sketching over the paintings, and, as time went on, he began applying fragments cut and pasted from catalogues and vintage porn...Category
