Anne Faith Nicholls is a unique contemporary artist, illustrator, curator, and collector whose work is published and exhibited around the world. Nicholls is most recognized for her original paintings and exhibitions, which have earned her acclaim with art critics and collectors alike. She has also contributed to a variety of high-profile commercial projects, with corporate clients such as VANS, Wind Up Records, GenArt, Visa and Keds Shoes.
Nicholls’ artwork provides a refreshing look at the soul of the modern woman and artist, speaking with a truly contemporary voice, a unique narrative style and an independent spirit. Described as a Neo-Surrealist or Neo-Folk-Surrealist artist, her work is both dark and inspirational, pulling from her personal experience and her own beliefs. She is most inspired by American Folk art, French, Mexican and Socialist Surrealism and Society Portraiture of the 19th and early 20th century. Her folk aesthetic has an inviting familiarity that encourages the viewer to explore the work and understand the nuances. With recurring themes such as love, anger, cleansing, and environmentalism Nicholls touches on universal concerns, yet she creates from a highly personalized narrative place. Like many Neo-Surrealists, she has created over time her own recurring symbols that aid her expression. The most common symbols in her art include cleansing rains, destructive flames, lightning, women, hands, animals, and the human heart. The fascinating result is a classically trained oil painter steeped in the highly personal dreamworld of surrealist metaphysics.

Anne Faith Nicholls
Anne Faith Nicholls is a painter living and working in California, based in Venice Beach and Palm Springs. She is originally from Victoria, Canada. Her original paintings have been featured in private collections, galleries, and museums throughout the world, and her illustration work has been featured in many art-related publications. Nicholls’ early career success began in the California Pop Surrealist and "Low Brow" movements, appearing regularly in Juxtapoz Magazine, and as a Van's Artist Brand Ambassador. However, she hesitates to confine herself to recent contemporary movements, citing inspiration from Surrealist and traditional painting as more key to her work. She currently identifies most closely with the Neo-Surrealism and Neo-Folk movements. Nicholls was born with a backwards heart and had 3 open-heart surgeries to correct her ailment. Naturally, art was a mellow and solitary activity that she gravitated to from a very young age. Her formal artistic education began soon after when her mother noticed her acute interest in the arts. As an only child with a working mother, Nicholls subsequently spent much of her school years quietly working on projects and paintings. After receiving accolades and scholarships in high school, she entered Seattle Pacific University as an Art and Business double major. She eventually received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. with a specialization in 20th Century Art History. She also completed a Study Abroad Semester in Italy with the Academy of Art University where she studied classical painting, and had a brief internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum on the Grand Canal in Venice. Since then her obsession with travel and seeing the greatest artworks in person has compelled her to study great paintings throughout France, Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Austria, The Czech Republic, Italy, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Brussels and Latin America. These experiences have created a classically trained oil painter, one who has developed a unique technique of utilizing both oil paint and acrylic paint to achieve a signature layered look with a saturated, antiqued, color pallet. Described as a Neo-Surrealist, or Neo-Folk-Surrealist artist, Nicholls’ work is both dark and enlightening, pulling from her personal experience and her own beliefs. The ‘folksy’ feel of much of her work lends an inviting familiarity which draws the viewer in to its nuances. With recurring themes such as love, anger, cleansing, and the environment Nicholls offers food for thought that many can identify with yet she nonetheless creates these images from a highly personalized narrative place.

- In My SolitudeLocated in Ibadan, OyoNudity in art has historically been a contentious subject, often raising questions about beauty standards, objectification, and the human form. In "In My Solitude," however, Edwin treats nudity with sensitivity and purpose. The nude figure, devoid of clothing and external trappings, serves as a metaphor for vulnerability and raw authenticity. It becomes a powerful statement on embracing one's true self, stripped of societal expectations and external judgments. The choice of the yoga position is not arbitrary in Edwin's composition. Yoga has long been associated with self-discovery, inner peace, and spiritual enlightenment. The woman's serene posture exudes a sense of calmness and introspection. Through this position, Edwin suggests that solitude and self-reflection are integral to personal growth and inner strength. It encourages viewers to embrace moments of introspection and find solace in their own thoughts, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of themselves. Edwin's meticulous attention to detail and symbolism further enriches the narrative of "In My Solitude." The subtle play of light and shadow highlights the contours of the woman's body, accentuating the vulnerability and emotional depth captured in the artwork. The artist's skillful brushwork evokes a sense of intimacy, drawing the viewer into the private world of the subject. The title itself, "In My Solitude," adds an additional layer of meaning. Solitude, often associated with loneliness, is reimagined as a source of inner strength and self-discovery. Edwin invites viewers to contemplate the transformative power of spending time alone, away from distractions and truly connecting with oneself. Crixtover Edwin...Category
