About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “A Bus Tour in the Woods—Stage 5” is a 22 x 30 inch triptych with three collages on acrylic monotypes with black, gray, dark and lime greens, orange, pink, purple, and white. Botanical and abstracted forms ranging from crisp to distressed are printed on vintage papers—ruled math homework, cream ledger paper with handwriting, and graph paper—once belonging to DeSalvo’s late father. Many of the collage elements are fragments of monotypes, and all monotypes were created by using a Gelli plate. DeSalvo regularly prints onto her father’s paper memorabilia and incorporates it into her work. DeSalvo’s A Bus Tour in the Woods series was inspired by foliage along a footpath on the island of Skopelos in Greece and an enchanting hallucination that DeSalvo’s father recounted during his decline and memory loss.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.

Monica DeSalvo
DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist blending drawing, printmaking, painting, and design. Her recent work explores and draws inspiration from her late father’s dementia and the journey she found herself on while caregiving. By using collage, she is able to perform “duets” with her father by incorporating his paper memorabilia. In August 2021 DeSalvo was one of eight artists selected from over 60 applicants featured in the Attleboro Arts Museum’s annual juried exhibition "8 Visions." DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
