About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Preserving Loss” is a diptych with two 24 x 36 inch surreal collages on digital photos printed on watercolor paper. A calm ocean at sunset with pink orange skies blend with gray water pooling around black rocky outcroppings and a lighthouse on Canada’s Campobello Island in the Bay of Fundy. Wide white margins surround the two nearly identical photographs placed in opposite orientations, allowing clusters of abstracted elements to extend far past the image borders. Materials include remnants of DeSalvo’s late father’s paper memorabilia from his engineering profession (such as the translucent graph paper, lists of numbers, and handwritten notes) and her own monotypes printed on them using a Gelli plate. Further abstraction was achieved by enlarging the photographs, creating a blurred, painterly effect.
Each half of the 24 x 72 inch diptych is dry-mounted onto 0.25inch foamcore. The title is written below the left hand image, and the signature is below the right hand image. The panels come with silver rail system spring clips for hanging. The surface of the foam core is slightly dimpled where the clips have been attached. This occurs on the top left and top right corner of each panel. The margins are wide enough to retain the white border if matting or framing.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.

Monica DeSalvo
DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist blending drawing, printmaking, painting, and design. Her recent work explores and draws inspiration from her late father’s dementia and the journey she found herself on while caregiving. By using collage, she is able to perform “duets” with her father by incorporating his paper memorabilia. In August 2021 DeSalvo was one of eight artists selected from over 60 applicants featured in the Attleboro Arts Museum’s annual juried exhibition "8 Visions." DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

- "Two Roosters Running Amok on Poipu Beach", contemporary, print, mixed mediaBy Patty deGrandpreLocated in Natick, MACropped and deconstructed images of a Kauai beachfront, palm trees and a pair of roosters are represented on 14 x 11 inch Yupo translucent paper in Patty deGrandpre’s contemporary abstract mixed media print titled “Two Roosters Running Amok on Poipu Beach”. This one of kind piece pays homage to this notorious Kauai beach and the roosters and chickens that have become so familiar to the Hawaiian Islands. DeGrandpre thoughtfully combines and layers block printing ink and digital inkjet in hues of blue, orange, yellow, red, and gray. A screen of clouds provides both contrast and texture within the distinct fields of vivid color and the pair of red roosters to create this graphic interpretation of a tropical Hawaiian landscape...Category

- "Veiled Sky", Photography, Archival Print on Silk, Embellished Hand StitchedBy Luanne RimelLocated in St. Louis, MOLuanne Rimel is an artist, curator, instructor, and currently the Director of Education Programs at Craft Alliance Art Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Her work is layered with historical dialogue and tactile intrigue through both technique and concept. Rimel prints her original photography on repurposed flour-sack cloths using a wide-format inkjet printer. Detailed sections of the image are created and layered, collaged and hand stitched onto the cloth, referencing earlier domestic practices of mending and repair, reuse and repurposing. The delicate, repetitive hand quilting across the surface creates shadows and textures and alludes to the marking of time. Her photographic imagery and textile work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including Japan, China and Korea, and is in many private and corporate collections. Her work is traveling in Quilt National 2013 and was in QN 2011. She has exhibited in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Smithsonian Craft Shows. Her work will also be included in the new book, Art Quilts of the Midwest, published by the University of Iowa Press. Other exhibitions include a solo exhibit at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, St. Louis, MO, Art Quilt Elements, Wayne, PA, and the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago IL. Luanne received an MFA in Fibers from Southern Illinois University and has taught numerous workshops and classes around the country.
