About the Item

Edition 3/10 Hand embellished Archival pigment print Image size:13 x 19in /33 x 48cm Frame size: 18 x 24inc/46 x 61 cm “I frequently hear music in the very heart of noise”- George Gershwin With my Deconstructing Beauty series, I pursue a visual interpretation of this notion, to reveal the hidden enchantment and splendor of the natural world through the calming power of flowers. Beyond their fragile beauty, in my mind, flowers seem to also possess a magical, invisible language. I grew up with a musician mother and grandmother and their sheet music was always present. As a child, I was fascinated by how little black dots one could see on paper could translate to beautiful music you could only hear. For the imagery of this series, I conjure the enigmatic language of flowers, with their own form of visual notes and deconstruct a image in a new way, by transforming digital pixel squares with an alternate and tangible interpretation of a visual building block, using the opposite shape: a circle. Each dot you see is hand clipped from a second print of the same image and placed one by one, on top of the base photo, using a traditional collage technique of cut pieces and glue resulting in a unique piece. While I am drawn to things that are beautiful, it is magic that is at the core of my art making. With Deconstructing Beauty, I expand an image beyond the documentation of a beautiful object and convert it into a new incarnation of magic, as a photo-as-object which also addresses my concern with how we so often document memory in a digital manner, rather than as a physical artistic expression. 1200
