Roman Antopolsky
Hourglass, Abstract Painting

2021

About the Item

Artist Comments
Minimalist and abstract styles meet in artist Roman Antopolsky's gestural piece. Two asymmetric sections raise the tension in the composition. He displays expressively painted colors on the left and muted articulate strokes on the right. "If this were a horizontal hourglass, the viewer's eye would go first to the neck and then notice that what had passed from one side to the other is not the same anymore, but a translation of sorts," says Roman.

  • Giselle, Original Painting
    By Ryan Pickart
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Part of Ryan's long-running series of portraits done in charcoal and oil paint on gold washed paper. Ryan enjoys pairing the fluidity and transparency of oil paint with the substance of charcoal. "Much like the ballet of the same name, "Giselle" combines dramatic patterns with stoic expression," says Ryan. The figure wears an abstract dress of dripping circles, her hair in modernist angles. She looks intensely at the viewer, her slender frame elongated by her strong pose.
