About the Item
Parvaze is from Kashmir, India and is a Chain Stitch artist. Chain stitching is an ancient craft that involves sewing and embroidering through a series of looped stitches to form a chain-like pattern. Parvaz uses worsted yarn, high quality wool free from impurities. These pieces are made on “hessain cloth” or hand made cotton cloth, in a continued stitch with superior woolen or silken yarn, with the help of a hook type tool natively called “Aurah”. The work is then supported with cloth-lining to add to the durability.
The designs range from floral patterns to animal and human forms traced by Emmanuelle Grelier while the craftsman embroiders in two-ply woolen and silken yarn. We can recognize the inspiration of great masters like Kandinski, Miro, etc. in each piece, which Emmanuelle has reinterpreted to explore Indian culture and influences.
