Susan Woods
Black Wave Bench : bent poplar plywood and bent steel seating

About the Item

This beautiful piece of furniture by contemporary artist Susan Woods is a bench made out of bent poplar plywood, with a solid bent steel base. Black Wave is both a piece of art and a very comfortable seating for one or two people. The heavy metal frame and curves of the wood make a wonderful sculptural object that is also functional art. Only two Black Wave benches were created by the artist, the first one being already sold. Bent poplar plywood was stained black and has a polyurethane finish. The surface was later waxed to create an elegant look. The solid steel base is made to match the rhythm of the sculptural, yet, very comfortable seating area. Opulent and at the same time very simple and fashionably minimalistic, Black Wave draws attention and, when sat in, relaxation.
