Benjamin Weaver
Intersecting Cubes #9: geometric abstract Op Art painting, pink & gray on orange

2022

About the Item

Benjamin Weaver creates spatial tension through his use of contrasting colors arranged in a geometric framework. Imagery and color work both with and against each other to create movement within the composition. By the artist’s careful placement of line and use of subtly graduated color, forms seem either to recede or project, constantly shifting within the picture plane. Weaver accentuates these structural relationships by working with a simplified palette and reduced forms, though the ideas at work in his compositions remain highly complex. This minimalist geometric abstract acrylic on canvas painting with a Pop Art flair is part of Weaver's "Intersecting Cubes" series, with squares, rectangles, and polygons. It is signed and dated on the back. No need to frame -- canvas edges are neatly finished, and the back includes hanging hardware so it is ready to install. Weaver’s work has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and is held in the permanent collections of Capital One, the Fox School of Business at Temple University, Episcopal Academy, Cube Smart, The Dane, and many private collections. He maintains a studio in Philadelphia, PA.

  • Real Fire: abstract painting w/ spray paint graffiti tag in red & black
    By Mat Tomezsko
    Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
Mat Tomezko's latest series of mixed media paintings uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Real Fire" depicts flames and fire above a segment of abstract forms in spray paint recalling street art and graffiti tags. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing. Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. He has created several notable public art projects including "14 Movements: A Symphony in Color and Words," a mile-long temporary mural installed in downtown Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention; "Look Long and Look Good," a series of 30 paintings currently installed along Main Street in Manayunk; and "Flowering Axes," a mural in the 5th Street Vehicular Tunnel underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. His work is in the collection of The Wharton...

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...
