Carol Bennett
Splitting her time between Hawaii and California, Carol Bennett (b. 1954) has mastered the art of capturing movement in her enigmatic paintings.
While Bennett has garnered praise for the meditative sensibility that characterizes her paintings as well as a bold use of bright colors, some of her works are more famous than others. In fact, her “Women in Water” series is perhaps her most well-known collection. As its name implies, the series features women swimming. They’re captured from an underwater perspective, and their faces are either out of frame entirely or obscured by the sun-dappled surface of the water, which serves as a showcase for Bennett’s portrayal of the qualities of sunlight. The upper half of each painting is flecked with the blues and greens of the ocean as well as whatever color the subject’s bathing suit happens to be.
The series originated with Bennett sketching swimmers at an athletic club’s pool in Los Angeles, but as her process evolved, her husband, Wayne Zebzda, began to film the artist on her daily swim on Kauai. The resultant images inform her work, but she doesn’t consider these works to be depictions of her in particular.
“I swim seven days a week, and while I don’t consider them self-portraits, I am the swimmer in the paintings,” Bennett has said.
Given her constant proximity to the ocean, it’s no surprise that Bennett is inspired by water’s glassy properties, citing its presence as both “a mirror and then a window.” Her radiant paintings, whether she’s working with oil and shellac on paper or wood panels, allow her to explore sunlight in such a rich and provocative way that it’s as if she endeavors to suspend rays of light above the water’s surface, making them seem as tangible and physical as the swimmers themselves.
Aside from her works that hang on the walls of galleries and museums around the world, Bennett has also painted murals and even a 48-foot photovoltaic solar canopy for the Hawaii State Art Museum Sculpture Garden.

- "Oyster Creek" Oil painting of a single white oyster with dark gray backgroundBy Anne HarneyLocated in Edgartown, MA“Spending a lifetime of summers on Martha's Vineyard my work has evolved into natural forms of coastal scenes. My connection to the island developed a deep concern with natural forms life-plants, shells, hills, trees, stones and water. My paintings create a path of self-discovery. Reassembling pieces together from memory and imagination using textures, patterns and transparent layers make the viewer question how far reality can be pushed before it will yield the powerful essence of what is seen.” Anne Harney is a Boston-based painter who received her BFA with Honors in painting from Mass College of Art and Design in 2011. - Ash: geometric abstract mixed media painting w/ red flowers, fruit & black linesBy Mat TomezskoLocated in Bryn Mawr, PAMat Tomezko's latest series of abstract mixed media paintings are constructed from traditional acrylic painting and the incorporation of ash into a hand-mixed paint of his own creation. This piece is part of a body of work that uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Ash" is a traditional still-life and landscape composition interrupted by broad black geometric chevron lines or "arrows" that divide the composition symmetrically in a geometric balance. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing. Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. He has created several notable public art projects including "14 Movements: A Symphony in Color and Words," a mile-long temporary mural installed in downtown Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention; "Look Long and Look Good," a series of 30 paintings currently installed along Main Street in Manayunk; and "Flowering Axes," a mural in the 5th Street Vehicular Tunnel underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. His work is in the collection of The Wharton...Category

- Tulips Against Blue Amy Christie, Affordable Bright Still Life Contemporary ArtBy Amy ChristieLocated in Deddington, GBTulips Against Blue Original Still Life Painting Mixed-Media on Canvas Canvas size Size: 40 x 40 cm Framed size: 44 x 44 cm Framed in a White Wooden Hand Painted Tray Frame Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Tulips Against Blue is an original mixed-media painting by Amy Christie. Painted in bright, vibrant colours with acrylics and mixed-media to achieve a textured surface on the canvas. Amy has used silverleaf on many parts of the composition plus a metallic glaze to highlight certain areas. The silverleaf and shimmering glaze catch the light beautifully, so this is a piece of artwork that changes depending on the time of day, the light in the room and the direction from which the painting is viewed… artwork that literally changes before your eyes. I’m a North-Norfolk based painter inspired by the joy and vibrancy of flowers. They are a great vehicle for colour and I thoroughly enjoy selecting, mixing and working into my paints to create a piece that sings. I aim to uplift the viewer with my artwork and feel that I have succeeded in my work if I bring about a smile, a feeling of peace or a moment where all that matters is the beauty of colour and form. I work in acrylics and use textures and glazes with multiple layers of colour to create interesting and exciting effects. Paint is partially removed and pulled back to reveal hidden colours and I often adorn the painting with gold- or silver-leaf to illuminate it even further. I also use antique wooden printing blocks...Category
