Kim Fonder loves texture and touch. Her paintings and furniture reflect her infatuation with these two characteristics. From the materials Fonder selects, to the way she crafts each piece; these two attributes remain her focus.

  • BEFORE BARBED WIRE
    By Patricia Oblack

artist statement Life goes through many changes as does the creativity of the painter. With more than 30 years of experimentation, I can't remember a time in my life when I haven't been drawing, painting or creating. As I developed as an artist, I branched out to Interior Designers who brought customers requesting decorated furniture, stenciling, murals, faux finishing and much more. Another creative change led me to Chanticleer Pottery where I learned that long hours of repetitious work can sharpen your techniques. All of the years I spent building a portfolio of painted furniture, Orchid Botanicals & decorated walls has created the backbone for my current work. Pierre-Joseph Redoute's books educated me in botanicals. The Art of the Painted Finish, by Isabel O'Neil, and Decorative Techniques with Jocasta Innes...

  • Ash: geometric abstract mixed media painting w/ red flowers, fruit & black lines
    By Mat Tomezsko
    Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
Mat Tomezko's latest series of abstract mixed media paintings are constructed from traditional acrylic painting and the incorporation of ash into a hand-mixed paint of his own creation. This piece is part of a body of work that uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Ash" is a traditional still-life and landscape composition interrupted by broad black geometric chevron lines or "arrows" that divide the composition symmetrically in a geometric balance. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing. Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. He has created several notable public art projects including "14 Movements: A Symphony in Color and Words," a mile-long temporary mural installed in downtown Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention; "Look Long and Look Good," a series of 30 paintings currently installed along Main Street in Manayunk; and "Flowering Axes," a mural in the 5th Street Vehicular Tunnel underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. His work is in the collection of The Wharton...

  • Hush, Tapestry-Like Landscape Painting, Semi-Abstract Mixed Media Artwork
    Located in Deddington, GB
“Hush” is part of my Tapestry series of semi abstract paintings that explore the simplification of shape, space, colour and texture in places I have visited. Some of these are specific to landscapes around my studio in Surrey, the South Downs and Devon but mostly they are a visual amalgamation of experiences, like a patchwork of memories and feelings from one or many places. Tapestry-like landscapes with bold mono-tone blocks which reflect the shadowy-shape of evergreen trees against more open hills and meadows. I see more when I’m not focused on the detail, painting intuitively with a mix of acrylics, inks, chalk and oil pastels to capture an emotive response to a place rather than the reality of a specific landscape. Brush strokes and marks are layered and carved with fluid lines that create imagined dream-like patterns. “Hush” is painted on a wood panel with muted shades of slate, moss, pebble and shell, contrasted with a bold graphic swathe of charcoal.
