About the Item

Oil on canvas, signed lower left The painter, sculptor and lithographer Leo Wesel was born in Roosendaal, a small town in the south of the Netherlands, in 1955. From an early age he had the ambition to build his life around Art. He studied at the Fashion and Design Academy in The Hague, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Roosendaal. He has been working as an artist since the early 1970s. He discovers Italy and decides to settle in Vintimille in 1980 and then in Nice in France in 2001 with the Franco-New York sculptor Kim Boulukos. He will follow the formation "Lavoro con Ardesia" (Work slate) in 2002 and 2003 in the small town of Molini di Triora in Italian Liguria (near Imperia). Leo Wesel has long maintained a close working relationship with Wim Schütz and Wim Bouthoorn, two Dutch expressionist artists, but also with the French painter Serge Hélénon. The Italian painter Sergio Biancheri, the Hungarian constructivist artist Tamas Konok and the American professor of ceramics Daphné Corregan, based in Monaco, were also among his close friends.
