About the Item
Sapphire V is an abstract acrylic painting on Arches 140lb paper. Linda Colletta used her brushwork technique to create this dynamic piece which is just one of the works in her Brushworks series. This series began after discovering a vintage wallpaper brush at a barn sale in Weston, CT. The resulting works reinforced Linda's approach of repurposing, reinventing and reviving materials in my practice. Using sweeping gestural marks, Linda uses watery acrylic paint on canvas and paper, to allow for fluid brushstrokes and the element of chance to guide her process. Acting in contrast to her more frenetic compositions, this series is an exercise in restraint and minimalism. Although deceptively effortless, the elegance lies in precision, muscle memory and the countless hours of practice to master them.

Linda Colletta has been creating art in various mediums for over 25 years, and first translated her passion for painting as a scenic artist in the television industry before dedicating herself full-time to her painting career. Linda is self taught and works from her studio in Bridgeport, CT.
