Nicholas Turner is a painter of quiet compositions that are beautifully structured and well-painted.
Born in London, Turner spent many years in Bristol before moving to Monmouthshire, Wales. After his Foundation at UWE Bristol, in 1997 he received his BA in Fine Art from the same institution. In 2003, he was elected an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy and later served on its governing council.
Turner's work is largely studio-based, imagery being prompted by both imagination and observed images to invoke a sense of reflection and romanticism. It is the process of organising colour relationships and compositional design that fascinates Turner, whether working with themes based on landscapes or still life. Turner's paintings show the influences of Pointilism, French Impressionists and Modern British painters such as Julian Trevelyan.
He has exhibited widely in the UK and in Europe, with his work now included in many public collections, including the Royal Collection, the permanent collection of the RWA and that of the Marquis of Bath, as well as many private collections across the UK, Japan, USA, Italy, and Israel. His paintings are often seen as having a calmness and have been described as being 'lyrical and wistful without sentimentality' (Simon Quadrat PPRWA).

- Winter Woodland Table II Painting by Daisy Cook, 2022By Daisy CookLocated in Kingsclere, GBWinter Woodland Table II Painting by Daisy Cook B. 1965, 2022 Additional information: Medium: Oil on board Dimensions: 60 x 40 cm 23 5/8 x 15 3/4 in Daisy Cook is a British painter of landscape and still life. Cook creates abstracted paintings that take landscape as their subject without being explicitly topographical or descriptive. In fact, the meeting points of land, sea and sky have long been a focus for her. There is a subtlety of surface and depth, texture and light. Her landscapes are quiet and contemplative interpretations of natural environments and her interiors are equally as experiential, created by dragging, dripping and pouring oil paint that is rich in earth pigments. In all her work, Cook looks for new methods to build tensions between shapes, with the paintings made slowly and revealing themselves over time. Some areas are ambiguous and veiled, others clear and sharp. The experience of motherhood, ‘the most tender thing I’ve ever felt’, has undoubtedly fed into her work, as well as having focused and polarized her studio activity. 'Through a suggestion of silvery clouds and mudflat she evokes a littoral: not a specific view or portrait of a place, but a larger statement about this type of country as a habitat for the spirit, a place where the imagination may soar. Photographs are used as reference, but the key energy of these paintings resides in Cook's singular ability to recognize and identify the extraordinary in the ordinary. Her particular quality of recognition breathes through these images, animating them. Intuition and chance play their part, but they would be inert without the guiding principle of the artist's vision.' Andrew Lambirth, May 2006 'Cook aims at capturing the experience of being in a particular landscape or of swimming in its waters. Her paintings resemble thresholds, veils of colour and light filtered through a memory.' London Magazine Cook's works are in the collection of the Bank of England, Heckfield Place; La Caixa Bank; Majorca One Aldwych; Manhattan Loft Corporation; The Great Eastern Hotel; Hoffman Investment Management; and the Royal Free Hospital, London. Her work has been shown at the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, Pump House Gallery, Battersea Park, Sibyl Colefax and John...Category

- Jewel coloured vibrant op art abstract geometric painting French 1960sLocated in Norwich, GBA fabulous example of 1960s geometric/op art, displaying all the fun, playfulness and vibrancy of the style. Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images and vibrating patterns. Its roots can be traced back to Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism and Dada. The maker of this stunning piece is Tony Gonnet (1909-2004) an artist close to those who shaped modern art and its history. Working in Casablanca in 1940 he met André Breton and Saint-Exupéry, who were both on their way to America. Unable to obtain a visa for himself, Gonnet returned to Paris in January of 1942. Living on Rue de Seine, he became one of the figures of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and numbered amongst his many friends Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Genet – who prefaced his first Parisian exhibition in 1952 – as well as Albert Camus, Simone Signoret, Boris Vian, Jacques and Pierre Prévert and many others. In 1941, in the ennui of Casablanca, Tony Gonnet had started to draw, and then paint, in a Surrealist style. In 1946 he abandoned figurative surrealism in favour of abstraction, making sole use from then on of geometric forms and shaded tones, in his own unique style. His works aim to achieve harmony of shapes and colours, and thus to bring joy. Tony Gonnet loved life, and said that each of his works was an offering made to it. With solo shows in major Paris galleries...Category
