"Changing Seasons" - Red Over Blue Tribute to Mark Rothko in Acrylic on Paper
A bright abstract painting by California-based artist, Ricardo de Silva (American/Brazil, 20th C). Drawing from Rothko's characteristic style, DeSilva has arranged large red and blue patches of color. In the red block at the top, there is a blue block set inside. The artist has used salt (or another absorbent material) to create a textural pattern in the blocks of color.
Signed, dated, and titled at the bottom: "R. de Silva - 89"

From a collection of Ricardo de Silva's work and memorabilia. DeSilva was born in Brazil and grew up in Los Angeles. He was a gallery owner, first in Santa Barbara in the 1960's and 70's, then in San Jose in the 1980's. He was dedicated to promoting the work of talented upcoming artists, including Kogyo and Hasui Kiyochika, Robert Frame, Jim Stuckenberg, Alice Robertson Carr, Deborah Eve Alastra, Russell Kelly, and Diana Mark.
