After studying at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts, Salvatore Emblema moved to Rome. His first works were collages made using the moste disparate material that he had collected in and around his native Terzigno, on the slopes of Vesuvius; their unique character would lead to the artist making them the subject of a 1953 film documentary produced for the “Settimana Incom” series of cinema newsreels. In 1956 Emblema held his first solo exhibition with various kinds of materials used as if he were trying to introduce the stuff of real life into his pictures; this was particulary true of his use of sacking , wich he patiently “unwove” with the skill of a craftsman. Salvatore Emblema
Salvatore Emblema attended the Liceo Artistico and the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. From a very young age, he devoted himself to painting inspired by the nature that surrounds him, he used all-natural elements to produce particular colors and atmospheres. In 1982, he took part in the XL Venice Biennale and was also invited to major exhibitions abroad, like New York, the curator of the Metropolitan Museum, Filippo Montebello, acquired five canvases for the collection of the museum. In the same year, the Museum Boymans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam exhibited and acquired his works. Emblema’s research has produced his original and brilliant poetic experience, in the places of his youth.
