Steve Balkin
Steve Balkin Lyrical Expressionism Large Painting on Canvas

2016

About the Item

Large scale painting by Steve Balkin titled “Entre Nous”. Balkin is known as being the creator of “Lyrical Impression” which is clearly displayed and defined in this example. He is also well know for his associations with Andy Warhol as well as his friendship with Robin Williams which is believed to have originated at Balkin’s toy store ‘Burlington Toys’ on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Balkin has been well known for his photography as well as his dealings in vintage toys most specifically toy soldiers. Balkin was also a model in his earlier Warhol days being one of the '13 beautiful boys' in Warhols 13 Most Beautiful. Balkin also stars in the 2009 Documentary:  13 MOST BEAUTIFUL / SCREEN TESTS REVISITED which is a film recreation of one of Andy Warhol's seminal SCREEN TESTS.  Thirteen original subjects of Andy Warhol's screen tests re-perform them 45 years later: Steve Balkin, Randy Bourscheidt, John Giorno, Bibbe hansen, Sally Kirkland, Billy Linich, Taylor Mead,  Throughout Balkin's multidimensional life- he has painted. Upon his passing in 2023 a cache of these paintings have been unearthed. His painting ambitions, though lifelong had not been fully realized in his lifetime. He was known to have said: “I will be famous when I die”. This does indeed seem to be prophetic as these paintings are becoming sought after by collectors and are inching towards collecting the value in numbers that Balkin attempted during the handful of public gallery shows that he had during his lifetime. Seen here is a beautifully done painting on canvas that is signed, dated, and titled on the reverse. "Enter Nous" "2016"
