About the Item

Look At Me #5 Contemporary Original Abstract Acrylic Painting on Wood Panel The Look At Me series references society’s hunger for attention. Social media, news outlets, and the pressure of keeping up with the Joneses drive individuals to try any tactic to stand out from the crowd. From “stand up and be counted” to Warhol’s famous 15 minutes of fame, it has become hard to weed out the noise from the essential. A desire to be heard in the face of injustice, a need to be seen as better than, or an ingrained entitlement are all driving forces and inspiration for this series. This body of work is made up of two 38-inch square canvases and eight one-foot square wood panels. The intimacy of the one-foot square space combined with the mark-making that I have developed allows me to express the desired emotions. The two larger pieces allow me the space to explore scale with the same concept. Strong pigments are applied as glazes to give the colors a luminous look-at-me surface. This piece is not framed. Please inquire if you have any questions at all.

The Grid Drawing series stemmed from the Grid Drawing series. Both were an examination of three major elements - color, surface and mark making. The nonrepresentational drawings gave me the freedom to concentrate on and investigate more thoroughly the process by which I make them. They were largely inspired by woven textile art. The drawings were done on old textile paper, which is lined with a rectangular grid on which the designer would paint the image to be woven. The Grid Paintings...
