About the Item
Part of a new collection of painted porcelain panels by Chinese artist Yuan Lin, “Suspended” uses deep blues, purples, and reds, to explore Lin’s melancholy emotions during winters in Jingdezhen, China. The subdued colors reflect the subdued feelings in her heart; the blue smoke constricts the red, like the cold constricts movement in winter.
Lin’s work is a magnification and depiction of the small details of daily life. Her new collection depicts water vapor that evaporates slowly as it is heated by the sun in winter. Lin’s inspiration for this collection came from her research in forms of light, shadow, and movement during wintry outdoor trips.
This collection uses over-glaze ceramic firing technique. Over-glaze allows Lin to paint with a range of colors; unlike with other glaze techniques, such as under- or middle-glaze, over-glaze allows Lin to paint onto an already fired ceramic panel, so there is no serious change in the color of the pigments. Lin uses the New Color palette in her new collection. The traditional overglaze decorative colors in Jingdezhen include Gucai (antique colors), Fen-Cai (famille rose) and color enamels. In the present period, Fen-Cai and New Color pigments constitute the majority of pigments used in porcelain painting.
The shine of the porcelain makes this a perfect piece to lighten any interior. The ceramic will never fade and does not require glass or plexi, thus it is ideal for taking direct sunlight. Beautifully selected gloss white frame perfectly accompanies this impressive painting and gels with most any interior.

- MetamorphosisBy Jared FitzgeraldLocated in Southampton, NY“Metamorphosis” is a unique over-glaze Chinese porcelain pot by renowned ceramist and painter, Jared FitzGerald. Blowing in the wind. The wind crosses to the mountain and loops lazily in circles in the blue sky. “Metamorphosis” is part of a new series from Fitzgerald’s studios in Jingdezhen, China. This series uses over-glaze, a new ceramic firing technique that diverges from Fitzgerald’s previous ceramic practice, which used the traditional under-glaze technique with blue and white colors. Over-glaze allows FitzGerald to paint with a range of colors; unlike with other glaze techniques, such as under- or middle-glaze, over-glaze allows FitzGerald to paint onto an already fired ceramic panel, so there is no serious change in the color of the pigments. This is a special technique which allows the artist to mix Chinese painting techniques with western techniques derived from oil painting. Over-glaze decoration is considered one of the most important modern glaze techniques in Jingdezhen now. The traditional overglaze decorative colors in Jingdezhen include Gucai (antique colors...Category
