About the Item
Acrylic ink on linen. Inspired on Mark Rothko's floating shapes. Her elaborate and often repetitive patterns create moments of tension and release as they lead the viewer across the canvas. Cintia GarcÃa allows elements of chance to dictate the composition of the painting. She begins each work by tracing paint directly onto the canvas. From there, her process is highly technical and laborious, as she covers the surface of the work with straight networks of line and shape. GarcÃa has described his abstract paintings as “mind-mapsâ€â€”visual representations of his emotional state while working on a given piece. He does not predetermine the composition of a work, but rather allows visceral tics and emotional compulsions to guide his painting. It is a meditative, intensely physical process. ‘I have to wait for the right moment to draw some lines,’ she has said. ‘Sometimes it takes days and weeks to find the right state of mind. My breathing needs to be absolutely under control.’ The work ressembles a clash of tectonic plates, exposing a powerful tension of layers and a crack.
