Spring Angst, Painting, Oil on Canvas

2018

About the Item

I was having a particularly rough day when I made this work. I remember quickly getting in my car and heading to the studio. It was as if some hidden part of me took over, urging me to paint. Through my emotions I wrestled this painting for hours, and I didn't leave until well after dark. This artwork was painted ‘alla prima’ and features thick passages of impasto oil paint. The work depicts a figure painted in a gestural expressionist manner. Upon further investigation, the viewer will also notice a broken wooden paint stirrer, a bottlecap, and other detritus from my studio floor. These ‘happy accidents’ were a result of my painting process, which at times can be extremely athletic and physically demanding. The painting was rotated multiple times, and moved around the studio while I worked. At a certain point it tipped over unintentionally, face down on the studio floor where it picked up the debris, adding to its visual chaos. :: Painting :: Abstract Expressionism :: This piece comes with an official certificate of authenticity signed by the artist :: Ready to Hang: Yes :: Signed: Yes :: Signature Location: On Back :: Canvas :: Diagonal :: Original :: Framed: No

  • Woman, 1986 - oil paint, 142x114 cm., framed
    By Damiano Bernard
    Located in Nice, FR
