About the Item
30"x40" oil on linen, signed on reverse by the artist. Emily Roz paints with a vibrant color palette. A glowing golden orange yellow background reflects off the off the skin of a reclining female figure. Alternating blue and violet stripes compliment a field of blue stripes. The pattern of the figure's bikini bottom fuses with the plane of stripes which appear to fade into the background. This painting creates an optical illusion of planar panels that are aligned at overlapping angles and curves.
Emily Roz's painting presents the femininity of the human form, and female politics of the figure. Roz paints with a contemporary style with flat fields of color and clean lines, her figures seem to glow in warm sunlight.
Emily Roz (b. 1972, New Haven, CT) is a New York based artist. She has had multiple solo exhibitions at Front Room Gallery in New York and a project space presentation at MULHERIN Toronto. Her work has been in group shows including: MULHERIN New York, Auxiliary Projects, and 31Grand, New York; Decatur Blue, Washington DC; NUDASHANK, Baltimore; articule, Montreal; Gardenfresh, Chicago; Franklin Street Works, Connecticut; and The Kohler Art Center, Wisconsin.
She received an MFA in Fiber from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BA from Hampshire College where she studied Art History, Literature and Weaving. Her work has been covered in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Out New York, The Village Voice, The Washington Post, Joy Quarterly, W+G Williamsburg News + Art, Apollo Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Two Coats of Paint and NewCity Chicago.

Emily Roz
Emily Roz was born in New Haven in 1972. She is a New York based artist. She has had multiple solo exhibitions at Front Room Gallery in New York and a project space presentation at Mulherin Toronto. Roz’s work has been in group shows including, Mulherin New York, Auxiliary Projects and 31Grand, Decatur Blue, NUDASHANK in Baltimore and The Kohler Art Center, Wisconsin.
