About: Growing up in the Bronx during the vibrant tumult of the 1960s and '70s, John “Crash” Matos embarked on his journey as a graffiti artist at the tender age of 13, armed with nothing but a can of spray paint and a boundless creative spirit. Venturing into the gritty canvas of New York City's subway yards, he immersed himself in the underground art scene, leaving his mark on the city's pulse by adorning subway trains with his iconic tag—CRASH. Undeterred by the economic challenges of the era, Crash's distinctive, blocky signature became a fixture of the subway landscape throughout the '70s and '80s, defining an era of artistic rebellion amidst urban turmoil. As the art world began to take notice, Crash's transition from the subway to the gallery was catalyzed by the support and encouragement of his contemporaries, most notably the influential Keith Haring. By the 1980s, Crash's explosive outdoor murals found a new canvas on the more contained planes of gallery walls, marking a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution. Yet, even amidst growing recognition and acclaim, Crash remains steadfast in his commitment to his craft, tirelessly pursuing commissions and collaborations that continue to push the boundaries of his creativity. Looking to the future with unbridled enthusiasm, Crash sees his path as one paved with endless opportunities for expression and exploration. With a mantra of "more work, more painting, more life," he embraces the journey ahead with the same passion and vigor that fueled his graffiti beginnings in the bustling streets of New York City.

John Crash Matos
Born John Matos in 1961, CRASH was raised in the Bronx, New York. At the age of 13, he began following the older teens from his neighborhood to the train yards and began bombing. Taking the name “CRASH” after he accidentally crashed the computer in his school, his name began appearing on trains circulating all throughout New York City. By 1980, he began transitioning from train yards to galleries. He curated the groundbreaking "Graffiti Art Success for America" at Fashion MODA, launching the graffiti movement that has remained very active through today. CRASH’s career took off and he saw instant popularity throughout Europe and America, and eventually Asia. CRASH has been part of numerous museum and gallery shows around the world focusing on Graffiti and Street Art, and has works in many permanent museum collections. Visually iconic, he has partnered with many companies for projects including Absolut Vodka, Fender Guitars, SoBella Handbags, Levi’s, and most recently, Tumi luggage and Morphik. He continues to work and show both locally and internationally. Enjoy the awe and power of CRASH!

- Diary NotesLocated in Hollywood, FLArtist: Trude Viken Title: Diary Notes Medium: Oil on Canvas Size: 11.75 x 9 Year: 2022 Notes: Hand Signed and Dated on Verso. Custom Framed 13 x 11 Inches. Residing and creating in Oslo, Norway, Trude Viken defies artistic constraints as a 'colorist' of boundless imagination. Her canvases overflow with a mesmerizing fusion of flesh-toned hues, ashy grays, and enigmatic greens, juxtaposed with vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, and luminous pinks. The lingering aroma of oil paint fills the air, while her palette, comprising both earthly and otherworldly shades, simultaneously evokes feelings of sensuality and unease. Viken's art beckons an engaged audience to appreciate its tactile presence—a landscape crafted from the very essence of oil paint itself. In this regard, her creations resemble ever-changing weather patterns, as capricious as human moods. A visage morphs into a verdant, follicled mass, with a bubblegum-pink foundation, while white brushstrokes mimic the contours of clouds or wings. Her portraits, born from the ordinary, evolve into reveries that articulate our innermost experiences and our most tangible emotions, captivating us with their profound psychological depth. With Viken's deft touch, layers of oil paint transmute into swirling eyes, noses, mouths, ecstatic grins, or sly smirks, culminating at her discretion. Rows of contorted, molded faces...Category
