As far back as 1896, the Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius hypothesized that changes in the concentration of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere could alter surface temperatures. He also suggested that changes would be especially large at high latitudes. The storms transport heat from the surface to higher levels of the atmosphere, where global wind patterns sweep it toward higher latitudes. The abundance of thunderstorms creates a near-constant flow of heat away from the tropics, a process that dampens warming near the equator and contributes to Arctic amplification. Snow leopards live across a vast area of northern and central Asia, including the Himalayan Mountains. In the Himalayas, snow leopards live in high alpine areas, mostly above the tree line and up to 18,000 feet in elevation. There are as few as 4000 snow leopards in the wild, and their numbers are declining due to habitat loss, poaching, and the impact of climate change. Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill making it illegal to make or sell new fur coats, shoes, handbags, and other clothing and decor. People will still be allowed to buy and sell used fur products. The ban takes effect in 2023, giving stores more than two years to sell any furs they still have in their inventory. The birth of sneakerhead culture in the United States came in the 1980s and can be attributed to two major sources: basketball, specifically the emergence of Michael Jordan and his eponymous Air Jordan line of shoes released in 1985, and the growth of hip hop music. JOHN ISIAH WALTON was born in 1985 in New Orleans, where he currently lives and works as a fine artist. He attended St. Augustine H.S. (1999-2002) and graduated from Sarah T. Reed H.S. (2003). Walton received an AA degree in 2012 from Delgado College, New Orleans. Walton has been a member of Second Story Gallery (2012- 13) and The Front, New Orleans (2014-2017) Level Artist Collective (2015-Present). He has lectured about his work to the graduate program at UNC, Chapel Hill (2014) & his work was donated to the permanent collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art.
