Lily Sol
"Blue Siren" colorful contemporary oil painting of a mermaid with flowers

2022

About the Item

Lily Sol’s current work “Flower Goddess” is a symbol of blooming into her true self and honoring the divine femine energy within all of us. Through her paintings she is able to celebrate the fierce women in her life and shine light on the diverse and unique beauty of cultures around the world. She loves exploring different mediums in her art journal, playing with collage, acrylic paints, watercolors, and pressed blooms. While painting she tries to stay in an intuitive mindset and allow her works to transform naturally—always seeking the harmony between staying loose yet in control, yin & yang of life. Bright colors, a playlist she can dance to, and letting her imagination move her is a recipe for a thriving creative practice. “I hope people feel a spark of joyful magic and are put in a playful yet confident mood when they see my paintings. I try my best to pour all of my positive, nurturing, and free spirit energy into my creations. I love using bright colors next to earth tones and bold marks, mixed with a sense of elegance to create balance and harmony. Like a flower who is rooted and grounded in the dirt yet growing upward to the sky in all its beauty.” Lily is the middle sister of Rose and Iris, as children they would joke that they were the “Flower Girls” or a bouquet. She is grateful for her sisterly connection and can’t imagine life without their love and support, along with her amazing girlfriends and mother. One of Lily’s earlier paintings, before ever taking a painting class, was of her mother, Debbie as a queen bee surrounded with blooms, she looks up to her as an example of how feminine energy is indeed a superpower and a strength to be deeply proud of! It wasn’t until Lily was in her 30’s that she decided to share her painting with others, when she got positive reviews she felt like could call herself an artist for the first time. “Calling myself an artist was difficult because she grew up with the mindset that one, artists are poor or have to struggle and two, that someone who is self taught and a black female wouldn’t fit in the gallery art world. It’s taken years to reprogram these false stories and to not be held back by what others have told her as a child. “I’m on a path of exploration and growth, it's been amazing so far, all the opportunities and loving connections art has given me.” She hopes all people can see their own magnificence and celebrate or practice whatever it is that makes them feel brave, connected, and at peace within. “There is an inner Goddess/God or spirit within each of us who we must adorn, awaken, and let shine. When we allow our radiance to glow freely, we give others the permission to let their inner light shine too, and together we lift each other up, the same way the sun lifts and awakens the flowers from the night”. Lily is proud of her accomplishments, graduating from SFSU with a B.A. in TV Film Production, however some of her favorite classes were electives in figure drawing, sculpture and Brazilian dance. She is grateful for being recognized and having prints sold by Jungalow, teaching Goddess Journal lessons on CreativeBug, and having an article in the Fall 2022 “In Her Studio” Magazine. Lily will continue to create from her bohemian styled California studio and hopes to teach art classes that awaken and free the creative spirit that we all have access to. You can find Lily gathering inspiration out on hikes, near water, or traveling to warm places like Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico, Bali, and Morocco. She is constantly pulling ideas from a mix of cultures, locations, and spiritual practices. The Eisenhauer Gallery has 25 years of experience shipping art worldwide.
