Oluwapelumi Oluyemi
Purple Couch

2023

About the Item

The title, "Purple Couch," serves as a focal point for the composition. The color purple is often associated with creativity, spirituality, and transformation. In this context, it symbolizes the woman's ability to find inner peace and transform her outlook despite external challenges. The couch itself becomes a symbol of comfort and resilience, a place where the woman seeks solace and discovers the strength to weather the storms of life. Oluyemi's personal reflection on the creation of this artwork adds depth and meaning to "Purple Couch." She mentions that despite facing a multitude of issues, she found herself seated at peace, a state of mind she deemed unusual for her. This revelation led her to the profound realization that "If it's out of your hands, then it deserves freedom out of your mind." This golden rule, as she puts it, is beautifully encapsulated in the artwork itself, as the woman on the couch embodies the essence of letting go and finding serenity in the face of life's uncertainties. Beyond the central figure, the composition hints at the storm brewing outside the window. Dark, turbulent clouds loom ominously, representing the challenges and worries that often surround us. Yet, the woman remains unperturbed, emphasizing the power of mindfulness and the ability to focus on what truly matters—finding peace within. In conclusion, "Purple Couch" by Oluwapelumi Oluyemi is a masterpiece that resonates deeply with anyone who has experienced life's storms and sought solace within. Through her artistic talent, Oluyemi has captured a profound moment of inner peace and resilience, reminding us all of the power of mindfulness and the wisdom of letting go of that which is beyond our control. "Purple Couch" is not just a work of art; it's a reflection of the human spirit's capacity to find peace and tranquility amidst life's tempests, offering viewers a valuable lesson in the pursuit of inner harmony. • 'Security' Conceptual Nude Portrait
    By Dinh Y Nhi
    Located in Rye, NY
‘Security’ is a large framed contemporary surrealist figurative oil on canvas painting of vertical format, created by Vietnamese artist Dinh Y Nhi in 2010. Featuring a cold palette mostly made of grey and black tones, accented with blue and beige touches, the painting depicts a frontal view of a nude figure. This piece exemplifies Y Nhi's style of paintings as her success with two-colors; red, blue or black and white, addresses modern themes and issues devoid of gender. Her figurative surrealism style of stick figures is warped and elongated, stretched out of proportion. Each figure tilts and twists at painful angles. They bring to mind the famous harrowing faces in Edward Munch's ‘The Scream’, or the difficult distorted ones from the portraits of Francis Bacon. But most of the faces Y Nhi paints are miniature ones devoid of details, deceptively random and simple brush strokes. There is a playfulness that reflects the outer images the painter projects of herself. Her style also allows her to convey complex textures, and emotions, in her images. Dinh Y Nhi is a graduate of Hanoi's School of Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited in many shows in Vietnam. She is receiving much notice among the Vietnamese press and art patrons in the United States, Australia and Asian countries. With its powerful presence and great proportions, this surrealist oil on canvas painting will be a definite conversation piece in any home, whether placed above a sofa, console table or enfilade. Set inside a frame, the painting is titled in the lower section. 1967: Born in Hanoi, Vietnam 1989: Graduated from Hanoi Fine Art University Exhibitions: 2011: Group Exhibition Art Asia Miami, Florida, AiBo Fine Asia Art 2011: Portrait, Dinh Y Nhi & Le Thiet Cuong...
