William Krüg
Melancholia - Based on Albrecht Dürer, Modern Interpretation, Oil on Panel

2020

About the Item

This painting, inspired by Albrecht Durer's "Melancholia 1," was done during the COVID Pandemic and the last year of the Trump presidency. Hopes for the future of the planet and for a non-fascist government became bleak. I tried to think of a melancholic image that wouldn't read as kitsch. The result was a bumble bee impaled on the spire of a gold prison. The flaming forest in the background evolved into a something oddly sinister. Surveillance Capitalism appears. There's a malnourished dog and a young man wearing a tribal mask. Masked rituals have had many powers ascribed to them, including healing psychic illness and restoring mankind to a pristine state. • Untitled - After Rembrandt's Susanna and the Elders, Original Oil on Panel
    Located in Chicago, IL
This painting was inspired by Rembrandt's "Susanna and the Elders", especially Simon Schama's commentary on it, and the Me Too Movement. It depicts a vulnerable woman looking at the viewer, the male figure was derived from an Italian fascist sculpture. Rembrandt's painting depicts only one elder. It is assumed the other elder (or voyeur) is the viewer. This painting also contains references to global warming, surveillance capitalism and a thistle. According to the Penguin Dictionary of Symbols, thistles "like all prickly plants are a symbol of the protective belt defending the heart against external harm and attacks". This piece is framed in an ornately carved black wooden frame measuring 25.5h x 21.5w inches. William Krug...

This small portrait of a blonde female is exquisite in its execution. A blue replica is behind her which adds to the mystery of the painting. Why is this person here? Why is she painted in blue? Why are her eyes red and a red dot on her forehead? The painting is framed in a silver frame measuring 7.5h x 7.5w x 2d inches. Juan Barragán...

Urbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies. Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life. An artist of international caliber who has decided to entrust her return to her homeland to Almach Art Gallery in Milan, while maintaining connections with important galleries, such as Marlborough Fine Art in London and Galerie Koch in Hanover. The artwork represents the famous Velasca Tower in Milan. This artwork was exhibited during the Daniela Gullotta...

  • Ritorno a Casa - Original Oil on Wooden Panel by C. Benghi - 2000s
    By Claudio Benghi

Ritorno a casa (Homecoming) is a superb original oil painting on wooden panel realized by the contemporary Italian artist Claudio Benghi. Title, tecnique, dimensions and signature are hand-written with a black marker on the back at the center of the panel. Signed in capital letters with a brown color on the lower margin at the center. In excellent conditions, our artwork demonstrates an incredible mastery of the artistic technique. Representing a surreal scene: a man or a child is carrying a toy, following a big train-toy. In this oniric scene a child, a bluefish and a watch are floating in an anti...
