About the Item
Artist Comments
In this painting, artist Mandy Main contrasts the iconic geometric shapes of mid-century architecture with the organic forms of the surrounding vegetation. "Wide, shallow hard-edged concrete steps make a curving arc uphill through velvety green grass, leading to an aqua door matching the aqua sky which is also reflected in the adjacent window," describes Mandy. "Aloes with red flowers front a glass partition and an intricate screen." Mandy is passionate about mid-century architecture and design, and in fact, she lives in a midcentury home.
About the Artist
Mandy Main is an art historian and landscape painter based in the Southern California desert. She has long been passionate about 19th Century American landscape paintings, which has been influential in her artistic practice. Mandy works in series, generally three paintings at a time. Her process begins with a vision of a place she has been, but she takes creative liberties with the aesthetic details. The artist is captivated by light and shadow, and strives to instill her work with moody drama through the representation of these elements. Using layers of paint and glazes, Mandy achieves mesmerizing atmospheric depth, encouraging the viewer to gaze and be still.

- Delta Tree, Oil PaintingBy Hadley NorthropLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
This painting is of a double redwood tree in a small town on the California Delta. I love this Victorian street at night and its combination of giant ancient trees and whimsical decorative lights.About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.Words that describe this painting: California, night time, small work, Christmas lights, fairy lights, redwood, trees, Port Costa...
