Peter Adams
Sources of Light - St. Andrews Catholic Church, Pasadena

2004

About the Item

Provenance Acquired by the gallery directly from the artist Artist's Statement: Sources of Light refers to spiritual beauty, which is portrayed here in the tranquil atmosphere of this intimate chapel in St. Andrew’s Church in Pasadena. A corner of the chapel is illuminated by a shaft of light falling towards an altar and the religious murals on the back wall. The light shaft and votive candles gently highlight statuary of a loving baby Jesus held by St. Joseph, evoking concepts of Jesus as “the Light of the world”. In the corner stands a gilt-embellished statue of St. Peter holding the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Also revealed in the foreground are missals and high on the wall a Menorah and Chi-Rho christogram, an ecumenical pairing of symbols. -- Peter Adams EXHIBITIONS Carnegie Art Museum's Emapathy for Beauty in the 21st Centrury: Artwork by California Art Club Signature Artists, June 8 - August 17, 2014 Plein Air Painters of America's 21st Annual Exhibition; Sale: From the Heart at the Haggin Museum, Stockton, California, Oct 21, 2007 - Jan 6, 2008 California Art Club's 94th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition held at Pasadena Museum of California Art, October 17, 2004 - January 9, 2005 Dimensions: Unframed 40" x 30" --- Framed 56.38" x 44.25" x 4.5"
