Zeynep Genc
Capela do Monte Chapel, Original Painting

2020

About the Item

Artist Comments
Portraying Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza's design, a chapel stands as a solid block with clean lines in a picturesque landscape. The deep blue Mediterranean sky divides into rectangular grids, with each segment painted individually. The approach creates a fragmented yet cohesive image, adding depth and dimension to the scene.

About the Artist
Artist Zeynep Genc explores the interaction between modern urban landscapes and the transitions of nature in her paintings. Her subjects center around Northeastern American settings, themes related to her profession, and experiences from her travels to different countries. "As an interior architect and industrial designer, my selective perception influences how I experience the surroundings and find beauty in the synchronicity of architectural and natural elements," says Zeynep. Originally from Eskisehir, Turkey, her career spanned more than 30, during which she taught interior design at Bilkent University and Middle East Technical University, Ankara. She relocated to New Jersey in 2015 and has been painting ever since. Zeynep paints in the corner of her well-lit and organized living room, listening to Italian baroque music and enjoying a cup of coffee. She spends her summers in Bodrum, Turkey, where her house sits right next to the beautiful Aegean Sea. When not creating art, she frequents museums and galleries, prepares healthy Mediterranean meals, and enjoys quality time with her family.

Artist Wenjie Jin paints a modernist window with minimalist color vectors. "When looking through the window, it becomes a picture frame. The window brings in the natural light," says Wenjie. She draws inspiration from the ancient association of light with God. An illustrative comparison of windows and religion comes into awareness.

    About the Artist
Chromatic hues demonstrated in precise, minimalist arrangements establish artist Wenjie Jin's s compositions. She implements aspects of modern and abstract styles in beautifully refined sequences of color. "You may encounter heart-touching moments, including beautiful poetry, surreal dreams, and exquisitely carved structures," says Wenjie. Her work creates a powerful sensory resonance that goes beyond words. Growing up in rural China, she discovered her love for painting and hoped to change her life's path with the paintbrush. Wenjie's creativity led her to pursue jewelry design and, through earnest efforts, became a successful international artisan. She migrated to the United States as an outstanding talent yet faced challenges from the language barrier. Rediscovering painting became her earnest way of self-expression and spiritual tranquility. Wenjie immerses herself in inspiration by taking reference photographs and conclusively translating the material at her well-kept garage studio in Arcadia...

  • From Below - My Holyrood, Original Painting
    By Marie-Eve Champagne
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
This painting is loosely based on the Holyrood Palace in the city of Edinburgh. The dynamic between the delicate hidden patterns at the top and the commanding columns leading our way to them is at the center of the work. It plays on concepts of perspective, height and motifs. With nowhere to gaze but up, a fresh, different outlook on architectural landscapes is presented.

    About the Artist
Southern California transplant Marie-Eve is heavily influenced by the region’s natural environment and beauty. She works from a studio inside her San Diego home where she enjoys looking out the window to draw inspiration from the sunlight’s effect on the landscape. Marie-Eve’s work occupies a unique space at the intersection of fine art and stylized modern design, utilizing both representational and abstracted subjects. She juxtaposes organic forms with clean planes, thick outlines, and blocks of color that delight the eye. Using limited but carefully selected color palettes, Marie-Eve joyfully articulates concepts and elements of the natural world through a clean, modernist aesthetic.

The window serves as a poetic channel for communication between humanity and nature. When gazing through one, its structure transforms into a picture frame, presenting the beauty of the natural world. Sunlight floods in, a symbol that has long been associated with divinity across cultures. In various religious texts, including the Book of Genesis, light is depicted as the fundamental source of creation. Thus, the window becomes intertwined with religious symbolism, bridging the gap between the spiritual and the physical realms.
