About the Item
This is a colorful mountainous view in what is likely Northern Italy. Angiola Meucci captured a dramatic sunrise or sunset to play off the verdant green mountain side in the foreground. The fencing and the pathway lead one through this breathtaking landscape that undoubtedly offers stunning views at every twist and turn. Please note that the images show shadows in the sky area that are from the top rail of the frame itself, and not part of the painted scene.
The painting Is oil on board and is currently backed with plexiglass for protection. The painting itself measures 13” x 17 1/2” and is housed is a beautiful gilt frame of the early 20th century. Overall the framed painting measures 20 1/2” x 25”. It is signed lower right. There has been some minor professional restoration work done to the painting, as the corners have been strengthened from the back in places. None of this affects or is visible from the front side, and it shows very well. There is some writing on the reverse side that likely places the scene but it is in Italian and difficult to decipher.
As the artist was born in 1880 and died in 1966, the painting seems to date to the early portion of his career, ca. 1920’s.
