"Grand Overlook, Sorrento" is a colorful example of Bryan Mark Taylor's modern approach to Impressionism. This beautiful oil on canvas captures the mood and feel of the Amalfi Coast with the brilliant glow of the Italian sun, warm glow of the horizon, and the rich blues of the Mediterranean. Painted on from a study done on location in Italy. A world traveler and an accomplished landscape and cityscape painter, Bryan Mark Taylor is currently working out of his Utah studio. Bryan has won numerous top awards at the nation’s most prestigious plein air invitationals and his work has been shown in museums across the country. He has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air, Southwest Art, American Art Collector and American Artist Workshop magazines. Bryan has had many successful one man shows and has been featured in numerous group shows including the Coors Western Art and California Art Club’s Gold Medal show. Bryan is represented by galleries in California, Colorado and Utah and his work is found in private, corporate and museum collections around the world. Bryan is a sought after teacher and lecturer has taught courses around the country including the Academy of Art University, Pixar and the Scottsdale Artists School. Bryan has also been a featured speaker at the 2012 and 2013 Plein Air Convention and has produced an instructional DVD titled “Painting Cityscapes.” Bryan has traveled extensively carefully observing and capturing nature’s everyday miracles. Bryan was born in Portland, Oregon. He received his BA from Brigham Young University in 2001 and his MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2005. He lives with his wife and four children in Alpine, Utah.

    Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888.
