Carolyn Miller
Golden Grasses. Contemporary Impressionist Diptych Painting

About the Item

'Golden Grasses No.1 & No.2' Acrylic, moulding medium, Gesso and composite gold leaf on canvas board Each panel 25x50 cm I use the moulding paste to create the structure of the picture. This produces a tangibly dimensional look and feel. After being gessoed, I then paint on this relief with high-quality, heavy-body acrylic paint and use composite gold leaf to accentuate the relief. The end result is a unique and impactful artwork which tends to draw the viewer in. These paintings are inspired by my local waysides in Wiltshire, UK, and the wonderful shapes and forms of different species of grasses and wild flowers. How beautiful such simple things in nature can be! This painting is on a canvas-covered board - no glass required. The painting has several coats of a gloss varnish for UV and dirt protection. It is signed and dated on the back.

  • Bluebells Woods 1, Impressionist Landscape Artwork, Original Floral Painting
    By Rosemary Farrer
    Located in Deddington, GB
Bluebell woods 1 is an original painting by Rosemary Farrer. At this time of year I head for the woods to paint the bluebells. The colours are very hard to capture, not quite purple, not quite blue, photographs don't quite do them justice. This is where a painting has an advantage over a photograph, a combination of cooler blues and warmer purples, side by side, mix optically and create a shimmering field of colour, flecks of lime green from the new beech leaves provide the perfect foil. Rosemary Farrer, artists and printmaker sells with Wychwood Art online and in our art gallery in Oxfordshire. Rosemary paints in oils and also makes original prints. The prints are in no way copies of the paintings, they are conceived of, and made, as a response to the special and wonderful effects that can be achieved only through the various techniques of printmaking, whether it be the graphic, dynamic marks of a linocut, or the subtle tones and textures achievable in aquatint and etching. Design, composition and the use of colour are what excite her. She spends a lot of time drawing and painting outside, back in the studio, she will distil these ideas into strong graphic woodcuts, and linos or subtly textured etchings. Recent monotypes draw together the threads of her different media, with their graphic shapes and rich painterly colours. She studied fine art at Camberwell School of Art and The Ruskin School of Drawing, and learned printmaking at Morley College [London]. She has exhibited prints...
