DETAIL: Artist mainly in oil and watercolour, although earlier work involved printmaking, and teacher. He was born in London, his wife was the artist Margaret Pullée, his son the artist Michael Pullée and his full name was Ernest Edward Pullée. Studied at Dover School of Art, 1922–6, then Royal College of Art, 1926–30. First taught at Cheltenham School of Art, 1930–4, was then principal of Gloucester School of Art until 1939, when he went to Portsmouth. In 1945 was appointed principal of Leeds College of Art for 10 years, moving to Leicester College of Art where he was increasingly involved in art education nationally and internationally. From 1967–74 was chief officer of the Summerson Council. Pullée first showed at RA and NEAC, of which he was a life member, in 1931, also exhibiting in various London and provincial galleries.Leeds City Art Gallery holds two oils by him and he is in collections in Wakefield and Leicester. Wakefield had given him a solo exhibition in 1954. He lived latterly in Chichester, Sussex, finally in a nursing home.
