Original oil painting on artist canvas board by the California artist, Fern F. Cunningham. Signed lower right. Titled in pencil on stretcher verso. Condition is very good. Recently professionally cleaned. Circa 1940. The painting is housed in its original period frame. Overall framed measurements are 14.5 by 17.5 inches. Provenance: A Sarasota Florida collector. Fern Cunningham Stone (1889-1975) She was born in Defiance, Ohio on August 4, 1889. A painter, she specialized in impressionist still life works, landscapes, and seascapes of California. Born Fern F. Smith, she married Napoleon Arthur Cunningham. They had three sons. Later in life she was divorced and married Earnest Stone. She moved to Florida for a period of time, and eventually settled in Southern California. Stone studied art at the Defiance College in Ohio, Van Emburg School of Art in Plainfield, New Jersey, the Fontainebleau School of Fine Art in France, and under John Carlson, and George Elmer Browne.During her career she exhibited at the Argent Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio; the Butler Art Institute, the Toledo Museum of Art; the Greenville Art Museum (South Carolina); Florida Art Club; the Miami Woman’s Club; Sarasota Art Gallery, Tampa University, Pacific Palisades Art Association; and at the Palladium in Hollywood, California. Stone was an award winner in many of the venues in which she presented here works.Cunningham Stone was a member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Toledo Art Association, National League of American Pen Women (she was the President of the Santa Monica Chapter), Miami Art Association, Sarasota Art Association, St. Petersburg Art Association, Santa Monica Art Association, Pacific Palisades Art Association, and the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs, California.Fern Cunningham Stone died in Palm Springs, California on April 4, 1975.

    Original oil on canvas painting of a bucolic summer’s day. Beautifully executed with warm, rich tones and wonderful water reflections. The painting was painted circa 1935 by the well known artist, George Thompson Pritchard. Signed by the artist lower left. Condition is good; recently professionally cleaned. The painting is framed in its original gold leaf over carved wood period frame in very fine condition. Overall framed measurements are 34 by 39 inches. Provenance: Delray Beach Florida estate. Born in Havelock, New Zealand on April 11, 1878, George Thompson Pritchard studied in Auckland, New Zealand at the Academy of Art, at the Elam School of Art, and at the Melbourne Academy of Fine Arts in 1901. Upon arriving in San Francisco in 1906 in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and fire, he produced many paintings during his three-year stay in the city. He then spent a few years in Milwaukee before journeying on to Paris for further art study at Académie Julian, and at the Vanderheldt Academy in Amsterdam from 1911 to 1914. During World War I, Pritchard lived in Canada, New York City, and Richmond, VA. In addition, he lectured and exhibited at colleges and universities throughout the Southern United States.
