Born in Chicago, his journey as an artist began in an unexpected place - as a scenic painter for theaters. His early career involved creating intricate backdrops for the stage, but it was his transition to capturing the natural world that marked his artistic legacy. Vincent's signature style centered on portraying serene marine scenes, often bathed in the soft light of dawn or dusk. His favored subjects included boats and the bustling fishing activities of New England, particularly the picturesque Cape Ann, and the coastal landscapes of France, with a focus on Menton. In his works, Vincent skillfully harnessed the interplay of water, sky, light, and color, aligning his oeuvre with the tenets of American Impressionism. His proficiency extended beyond oil painting, as he demonstrated equal mastery in watercolor and charcoal drawing. As his career advanced, Vincent transitioned from the bustling theater scene in Chicago to the vibrant New York City art community in the late 1890s.
