About the Item

An Easterly Wind Across the Valley [2021] Original Landscape Oil on Canvas Canvas Size: H:76 cm x W:122 cm x D:3.5cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look An Easterly Wind Across the Valley is an original landscape by Helen Howells. It was inspired by the emotional responses, and memories of walks in the mountains of South Wales, taken prior to the restrictions of lockdown. The artist has endeavoured to capture the ever changing light across the landscape, showing its eternal relationship with the fluctuating weather. Helen Howells is an artist living and working in the historic village of Caerleon in South Wales. Helen initially trained as a nurse, however following a career break whilst she raised her family, she took the decision not to return to nursing but to pursue her original ambition to become a fine artist. Upon completion of a Foundation Art course at the University of South Wales in Caerleon, in which she gained a distinction, Helen embarked upon establishing herself as an artist, focusing primarily on the dramatic Welsh seascapes and landscapes which she loves. Working predominantly in oil on canvas, she uses brush and palette knife marks to create rich textures which have been described as sensitive and expressive. Helen uses a semi abstract style to capture the essence of the image, drawing upon her experiences and deep emotional connection with the Welsh countryside. Her work focuses on the dynamic nature of light, and its interaction with the surrounding environment. The creation of each painting is an emotional journey in which Helen endeavours to engage the viewer to reach their own interpretation.
