Ivan Summers
Ivan Summers Early 20th Century Missouri Ozark Paintings

About the Item

Ivan Summers: 1889-1964. Well listed and important American impressionist. He has had auction results as high as $6,670. He studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts beginning in 1910. He won 3 awards in the St. Louis Art Guild Exhibitions from 1914-1919. These could very well be the 3 paintings that were the prize winning ones. He also won a first place prize in 1916 at the Art Students League in NYC. He was the head of the Woodstock NY summer school which John F Carlson would take over from him. These 3 beautiful Missouri oil on board paintings look as pristine as when they were probably painted. They each measure 12 inches wide by 10 high. The frames look to be period to the paintings and could well be the original ones. They measure 14 5/8 inches wide by 12 5/8 high. Don't miss a rare opportunity to own these 3 pieces of Ozark history!!! The paintings look even much better and brighter in person, not sure about my lighting.

His interest in watercolor and pencil drawing grew during his years spent in Louisiana. Striving to quickly capture color and mood with a direct "alla prima" technique is one of his main objectives in painting outdoors on-location.
