John WILSON
On the Beach by a Fishing Village, 1800-e

1800-e

About the Item

One Christmas as a 12-year-old boy, John was given a set of oil paints and an easel. Painting revealed a whole new world of colour and texture, and even now, over 40 years later, he uses the same easel. Inspirations include other artists – including Banksy and L.S. Lowry – and his own family, with his stick figure characters adapted from his daughter’s scribbles. All of John’s artworks are originally painted by hand without any digital images or tracing. For the full effect of the 3D movement, they are best hung with the centre at eye level. John says: “Picasso once said that he spent his life trying to paint like a child. This inspired me to mix children’s art with the carefully-planned paintings of an adult artist.”

David Géry's paintings are mostly black and textured. For him, it is only possible to perceive the mysteries and truths of life through black. David Géry creates an interraction between his paintings and the viewer; the painting is always different depending on the viewer's position or the intensity and direction of light. He takes us into the kingdom of the night, in a secret world wainting for light. David Géry is also a theatre director. The main plays he directed were Bartleby by Herman Melville at the Théâtre de la Tempête (Paris), Autum Dream by Jon Fosse at L’Athénée-Théâtre Louis Jouvet and an adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
