About the Item
A moody mid century landscape painted in neutral, sepia tones featuring an abandoned building by Joseph Bodner (American, 1925-1982). Signed "Bodner" in block letters in the lower right corner. Attached to verso is a piece of backing paper that reads "This is a genuine oil painting / it may not be reproduced / without consent of the artist" and is signed "Joseph Bodner". No frame. Image size: 11"H x 14"W
Joseph Bodner (American, 1925-1982) was born in Florence, New Jersey on January 16, 1925. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, Bodner moved to Pasadena to study at Art Center College of Design.
He specialized in illustrations of the vanishing West and white stallions. his painting "The Resurrection of Jonathan," which was exhibited at the motion picture premiere of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, is probably his best-known work. As an illustrator, in 1978 he collaborated with Bruce Lee on the first volume of his Fighting Method martial arts books.
He died on May 28, 1982 and was buried in Culver City, California.
