Lisa de WolffImpressionist Oil on Canvas. "La Fontaine à Tourtour", Provence.
About the Item
Contemporary impressionist oil on canvas of a fountain in Tourtour, Provence by American artist Lisa de Wolff. Signed bottom right.
A highly colourful and energetic oil painting of a fountain in the wonderful village of Tourtour high in the hills of Provence. The brushwork is quick creating a vibrancy, added to the wonderful treatment of light, fully capturing the intensity of a French Provençal summer. This painting is beautifully composed and the focus on just one small part of the village draws us into this charming scene.
Lisa de Wolff was born and raised in Hannover County, Virginia. Exploring the world is her passion.
Self taught, Lisa came to art later in life when she discovered an interest in creating art to express her inspiration from her travels. She began working in watercolours, enjoying the colours even more than the process. This evolved into painting in oils about 10 years ago with which Lisa fell in love.
Lisa's focus and inspiration lie in painting the wonderful experiences she has had and the places she has travelled to throughout the world and capturing the essence of these journeys.

- "Solebury Valley"By William Langson LathropLocated in Lambertville, NJSigned lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...Category
