Ricardo Mulero
Fields, Blue Hill Road (Abstract Landscape Painting of Countryside Mountains)

2022

About the Item

Modern abstract, geometric landscape painting of green and teal mountains against a gestural, expressionistic green and light yellow sky "Fields, Blue Hill Road", painted by Hudson Valley based artist, Ricardo Mulero in 2023 oil on wood panel, 12 x 6 inches, 13 x 7 x 1.5 inches with an ebonized walnut floater frame Signed, bottom left corner While Ricardo Mulero readily oscillates between abstraction and representation, his paintings are alike in their handling of light, geometric composition, and painterly brushwork. The artist employs the traditional Venetian method of painting, applying thin, translucent layers of oil paint to a traditional gesso surface to achieve exquisite depth and luminosity. In this scene, the artist interprets a traditional Hudson River School landscape with a modern spin using a vibrant palette and expressionistic brushwork mirrored by a geometric patchwork of country fields in the foreground. The artist grew up in Puerto Rico and studied historic preservation at Columbia University and art at Parsons. He also taught interior design at Parsons. He currently resides in Hudson, NY. About the Artist: Mulero works as a designer and painter in Hudson, NY. In his exhibition design work, Ricardo has synthesized powerful narratives into relevant immersive experiences for history museums, such as the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York City and the Field Museum in Chicago. His training in drawing and painting began at a young age under the supervision of Spanish painter, Don Luis Bouzà, in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In the spring of 2014, while teaching interior design at Parsons School of Design, he enrolled in an oil painting class -- which rekindled a new chapter in his painting. Since then, Ricardo has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Puerto Rico and New York City, including Peter Madero Gallery, Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, Ateneo Puertorriqueño, in San Juan, PR, Catskill, NY (at CREATE Council on the Arts), Taller Boricua in New York City, and FIPAP (Fire Island Pines Arts Project) Biennial. Ricardo Mulero continues to benefit from art coaching at Parsons and the New York Academy of Art in his evolution as an artist.

  • The Orange Wall of San Miguel #2
    By Carole Garland
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark. Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street. This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40". Artist Carole Garland has appeared in numerous venues throughout Southern California, including several juried California Art Club exhibits and individual shows at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has recently appeared at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery; the Rose Cafe, Venice; Topanga Canyon Art...
